Special congratulations to 1st & 2nd prize winners - both CEED students! |
The Steve Golding Awards were judged and presented on 6 October 2009, at a public event held at Engineering House, Brisbane (Queensland, Australia).
These Awards encourage and recognise final year engineering student projects in technological management and/or innovation in engineering, across Queensland. In 2009, for the first time, students were encouraged to self-nominate for the Awards. Entrants submitted a written abstract of their project, followed by a summary report. The finalists were then invited to give an oral presentation in front of an audience, and the final judging took place on the night.
Five finalists from three Queensland universities made impressive oral presentations of their final year thesis. The audience included the (5) judges, industry representatives, experienced engineers, family and other supporters.
This year's winner (from a very high calibre field) is Phillip Moreno - final year Infomechatronics Engineering student from QUT. Phillip is conducting his project via CEED, and is sponsored by Mesaplexx. His thesis topic is: "Thermal and Mechanical Design of Ceramic Filter Structures for use in Microwave Telecommunications". Phillip's academic supervisor is Dr Cheng Yan - QUT School of Engineering Systems. An article by QUT about Phillip's project can be found here.
2009's five Award finalists (incl. prizewinners) are:
Phillip, Mark and Kimberley received a cash prize as part of their Award. In addition, all five students received a complimentary one year Engineers Australia graduate membership, and Certificates of Participation.
CEED wishes all of the students a successful finish to their studies, and all the very best for the transition to an exciting graduate career in Engineering.
